How CAN I?

29 06 2009

I love all my children, but there is a special, Colby-shaped spot in my heart for my joyful, non-verbal 2-year-old.

And his red hair.

I don’t know what it is about the hair, but it just puts his cuteness over the top. Maybe because it was so unexpected: none of the other kids had red hair, why would #4 surprise us like that?

But we were definitely pleasantly surprised, and have enjoyed comments from old ladies in the grocery store ever since.

Last week, Colby was mis-identified as a girl for the first time.

See those curls?

Okay, so maybe it’s time. But . . . the curls! How can I?

Well, this morning I was feeling strangely motivated and I decided to go for it.

Mini-mullet, anyone?

I can’t decide if he looks older or younger.

Last haircut, I did a better job of leaving a few curls behind. Still, he won’t be mistaken as a child of the female variety anytime soon.

And, seriously, the cuteness is still over the top.

Oh, those curls. I do not even know Colby and I started a chapter of his fan club at my house.

Sarah gets accused of being a boy sometimes. Okay, more than sometimes. I just have to make sure that I do not dress her in too much Baby Gap. For some reason, she tends to look like a long haired boy in Gap.

But, Colby…I do not think that they meant, “Girl” as much as “angel”.

Sorry about the double response. I forgot to sign my name, and I thought that wordpress had deleted my words. Now, you will be excited that there are three responses, but will click on them, and find only one. Then you will write the same response three times on my blog…if you are vengeful. Which you are not, right?

He looks so handsome! Lexie gets called a boy fairly often. One day she’ll grow some hair I can do something with.

Hope you saved some of those red curls to show his wife!. Glad you didn’t keep the mullet; your brothers would have given you so much grief. Thanks for sharing the pictures. It’s not fair that you live so far away. Love you.

Have to admit I would have had a hard time letting go of those curls too. He looks very handsome though. My husband has threatened to give our son a mohawk on more then one occasion so the mullet doesn’t sound so bad to me. My son has two opposing cow licks which makes him grow a natural mohawk which at a certain length begins to stand up all by itself. I’ll see if I can blog about it with some pictures. That was the first thing out of everyone when they first saw him as a baby. “Look at the mohawk!” followed by “Did you do that on purpose?” Like I would do that to my son on purpose!

I want to hug and squish that kid everytime I see a picture. I worry that someday Stinky will discover that the random kiss-bombs sometimes stemmed from pictures of your child.

The dolls, if you’re interested, are from this pattern. I haven’t seen the humanitarian aid doll patterns, but I find these ones fairly non-threatening 🙂

He has the best hair ever! I’m still laughing at my father-in-law chasing him with that washcloth. He just attracts all sorts of attention with his red hair!

SOOOOO Cute either way! Thomas had curls like that. Mark never agreed to let them get that long, but I always tried. He is the perfect red haid either way!

It is so hard to cut the curls! I had such a hard time with Jacob especially – his hair was so curly 😀 And, what a beautiful red! Cute cute cute!
