One of Life’s Mysteries Unfolded . . .

I thought that Kool-Aid tasted a little weak.

In other news, I don’t feel nearly as bad about Zack drinking almost the entire pitcher in one sitting . . .

(It doesn’t look much like the real Space Needle, but I’m just being a snob.)

I was able to take a mini-vacation to Las Vegas last weekend.

It was wonderful.

The weather was hot and dry (we’ve had a remarkably wet and cold spring in these parts). I wore sandals and my feet were warm.

Not only that, I also got to hang out with some of my favorite people:

I love how my niece (affectionately known in blogland as Chunk #2) is trying to sneak her mom’s lemonade.

I know, right? SO lucky.

Here I am, talking to my kids, letting them know that, yes, I arrived safely, while avoiding telling them where I was:

I didn’t want them to be jealous. They were STILL in school at the time, after all (poor dears).

It was pretty much the perfect break.

I got to stay up late, read books, and sleep in.

I got to be the fun aunt instead of the disciplinarian mom. (Chunk #1 sat next to me in the car on the way to church and said, “I love you, Aunt Wendy.” AW!)

I got to take care of only myself. (Every mom needs that kind of break several times a year.)

I got to help my brother build an Ikea bed until late so he could keep his “Father of the Year” title.

I got to see that I’m not the only one who has children who occasionally act like this in the grocery store:

I also got to take loads of random pictures of them which, let’s face it, can get annoying after awhile.

But they didn’t mind.

Thanks for a great trip, guys. See you in August!

Being Footloose on a Sunshine Day

25 06 2010

Saturday, just before  I left for Las Vegas, Eden and Rainbow had their dance recital. They’ve been working on these for months, both in class and at home (I could probably do a large portion of their routines, myself, but wouldn’t look nearly as cute doing them). So why in the world would I start crying during the performance?

I don’t know, either. It came as a complete shock.

I didn’t take any pictures during the actual performance since I was manning the video camera (which turns out might have been unnecessary since I’m buying the ‘professionally made’ DVD [because I am a sucker]) but I took these during dress rehearsal.

They are both beautiful and did fantastic jobs!

I didn’t let Rainbow wear her show tights until the actual show, which is why her legs are so white.

Eden did her own lipstick for the rehearsal, but let me help on the day of the performance.

It was  spectacular.

Love you, girls!

Hey, Blog! How are you? Gimme five!

Don’t leave me hanging!

Okay, Blog. I know it’s been a long time. I’m sorry. Really.

. . .

What is that? Apology not accepted? Shoot. It’s not like I was trying to be neglectful. Life gets busy, you know?

. . .

Well, I was in school, and had some final projects due. I’ve also been implementing a new Jones Family Screen Time Directive to try and decrease our dependence on electronic devices. Zack, as you may imagine, was thrilled. Still, it’s been good for us all, and you can see how decreasing my screen time pretty much automatically decreases my blog time. I’m sure there’s a mathematical equation in there somewhere . . .

Okay, okay. I admit I have still been playing Scramble and checking my Facebook account. I have to keep Amie informed. She doesn’t have one yet.

. . .

What?! No, no, no, of course I don’t like Facebook more than I like you. I can’t say much in 140 characters. Seriously. I need you.

. . .

It has been too long. I completely agree. That’s why I’m here now!

. . .

You want me to beg? I don’t know if I can do that. Oh, but I forgot to tell you I was in the hospital last week with Zack and Rainbow. 2nd round of infusions. You can’t blame me for not blogging then.

. . .

Phew. Thanks for forgiving me. Do you want to see the new earrings I got? They’re the biggest things I’ve ever worn.

Okay, maybe I’m not entirely forgiven. No need to get catty, Blog. There. I cropped out my wrinkles. Happy now?

Listen, Blog, it’s been good to see you. I’ve got to go. One week of school left for the kids! I am so ready for summer.

. . .

I know, school until the end of June is SO lame. It is, however, giving me the chance to go on a little mini vacation. Las Vegas, here I come!

. . .

Sheesh, Blog, give it a rest. My brother lives there.

. . .

I’m going to let you take a nap. I’ve got to change out the smoke detector batteries. Have a good one, Blog. See you soon.

. . .

No, seriously. Soon. Bye!
